Last night...

Well all, last night my brithday celebration has begun. Yes, I am turning another year older and quite hoenstly I don 't care. I will happily turn 37 on Tuesday and will have a complete and total blast doing it!!!! After work, we headed out to dinner at Ghengis Khan's. I LOVE Mongolian BBQ!!! Anyway, we had a nice dinner and then Don took us to Pier One imports where I was to wander and stay away from him and my son, Bryan. The two of them wandered all around. Once Bryan figured out what he wanted to get me he joined me and kept my attention away from the registers while my hubby paid for the items Bryan had selected. As Aside note while we were there another family was wandering through the store letting their kids touch everything. One of their sons picked up a package of three vases and dropped one to the floor and walked away. They never apologized or even offeredto pay for that piece. That is one of my pet peeves...extreme rudeness. Of course I ahd to say something to the cashier while the parents were standing nearby. Sadly, they did not get the hint and offer to pay for what their son and broken. From there, Bryan happily bounced to the car. He gave me the present that he had picked out when we got home. I know you all are questioning why in the world he gave me my present now, but he is leaving for scout camp tomorrow and was very upset he would be gone on my birthday. So, that is why it is turning into a weekend of celebration. Gotta love it!!!! Oh and jsut in case you were wondering. I will post my gift from Bryan on Tuesday with the others.

It may sound strange...

Now that I am looking back my last post may seem a little calloused to those wandering by, but in my defense I do love my hubby very much. I think the problem with us is that we are together 24 hours a day. It can get fairly frustrating at time when you just want to have some alone time!!! it never happens. I am not complaining because I am thankful that he is home instead of the traveling three weeks out of the month he did for his last job, but we have noticed that an occasional break from one another is a good thing!!! So, I will enjoy my time off, but i will enjoy even more when the rest of my family returns home.

I think the best part of the entire thing is that Corinna and I will get to spend some quality time together. We plan a lot of going to the movies and kicking back in bed and enjoying each other. It's a rarity that we get so much free time together. Life will definitely be good!!!

Merry Christmas to me!!!!

Hello my friends and welcome to my happy Christmas party!!! I know, I know!!! It is only June!!! However, I have to tell you that I am going to have one of the merriest Christmases ever!!! Oh wait...well, my hubby never reads my blog so I think we are safe!!!

Several days ago we were sitting down in our store talking and thinking about the things we needed to do, but were too tired to do. When Don was talking about visiting his brother, Troy, down in Texas and going hunting with him. When we were talking he muttered soemthign about Christmas and then quickly changed the subject. I watched his eyes and tuned into him like a television set. Then I waited.

Yesterday, we were talking to Becky, a very good friend of ours who helps us out in the store from time to time. I brought up Don flying down to Texas to go hunting with Troy and elaving Christmas Day. He looked at me odd and said he was thinking the same thing. now, let me tell you. Aside from our side trips, Don has not had a true vacation in nearly 2 years. I ahve encouraged him to do this before, but he kept saying...no. So, now, when he came up with the idea I gave him the OK and so he called his brother. The plan was working well. of course I would stay back and we would be here for the returns and such associated with the holidays. I told him I would hire someone to lift the feed for me and there would be no issues. Then my big ploy worked. "Hey Don, why don't you take a couple of the kids down to see their cousins?" I was worried he would see right through me, but alas! He was thinking so much of hunting he didn't!!! We checked with my sister-in-law and she was thrilled that they would keep her kids busy and give her a break. My oldest had decided she was going to stay at home with me. So, for the week between Christmas and New Year's Day Corinna and I plan to "party like a rock star." Those were her words, not mine!!! Actually, we are planning to see Twilight 2 or 3...maybe 4 times!!! Just palying. However that is our plan. We are going to spend a lot of time just hanging out and having a good time together. Let's just see how my plan works out.

My one and only Meme...for now

1. What does your name mean?

"Sucker!" Just because I can never turn anyone down...even when I would love to!!!

2. Where was your profile picture taken?

It was at a tulip farm. You can't really see it unless the picture is larger, but it is a see of red tulips with one lone yellow tulip. Obviously, I feel like the yellow tulip, never quite fitting in.

3. What is your current relationship status?

Eternally married to my best friend and the love of my life.

4. Honestly, does your crush like you back?

Of course he does...it's a law or something isn't it?!

5.What's your current mood?

Grumpy...I am still waking up.

6. What do you like the most?

My favorite thing in the world is to be completely alone and working on my latest novel. I love it when I get the peace and quiet. With three kids it never happens, but I can dream can't I?

7. What makes you happy?

Ghiradelli chocolate, lazy days, winter, snow falling while I am sitting by the window reading a book with hot cocoa nearby, my kids when they are sleeping, my hubby when he is napping, lightning storms, rain storms, traveling here there and everywhere.

8. If you could go back and change something, would you?

No, because I think that everything that everything I have gone through and all the experiences I have....well...experienced have made me into who I am.

Aside from a minor sunburn...

Well, kayaking went fairly well. At first it was comedy of errors because we kept zigzagging around the lake and rowing in circles. my dear frustrated hubby said: "Why can't you do what I am doing?" To which I replied: "Because I am sitting in front of you and cannot see what you are doing!!!" Ahhh what a dear man. It wasn't until after we relaxed and floated lazily down a small patch of the lake where we figured out just what each other needed to do. Once we got that down we did fairly well. I posted Don's picture instead of mine for two reasons: #1 because I can! And #2 he looks so much better in his picture than I do in mine!!! Ahh the fun and excitement!!!!

Today is going to be a bit of a crazy day. Don will be heading out to Farmer's Warehouse to pick up feed at 9am which leaves me alone in the store to fend for myself a bit. It's fine, shouldn't be too bad I think. We shall see what happens. It is normally quiet today anyway, but I think people are going to be coming by later in the afternoon for the feed anyway. So, I expect to spend most of this day on my own because Don will be exhausted by the end of all of this. Luckily, we have nothing too much planned for the night. Just a little BBQ'ing of a tri tip and then relaxing the rest of the night.

I just found out that I am getting my pictures back from the concert today so I will post them as soon as I can scan them in. I am not too used to scanning so I will give it a try. Wish me luck!!!

I wanna go back to bed!!!

Blast those kids!!! They have ruined what would normally be a perfectly wonderful day off!!!! I could have slept in to my heart's content, but alas no!!!! I have to still wake them up and take them into school. The bright side is...their last day of the year is on Wednesday the 25th. Of course the bad news is that their first day is Monday July 7th....Ya gotta love year round sometimes!!!! Actually I don't mind, but a year from now it is going to drive me crazy because Corinna will be going to high school with a traditional school year and then Molly and Bryan will still be on year round. Fabulous!!!! Of course I don't want to even think of her in high school yet....makes me feel to old and creaky.

Today should be an interesting day here. We will drop the kids off and go out on our breakfast date together, then head over to the boat store for a couple of life jackets, stop by the bank fairly quickly and then head off to Del Valle to do some kayaking before the day gets too hot. I am almost afraid to know how bad my arms are going to hurt tomorrow. Forget tomorrow...Tonight!!!!!

Cooling effect....

So, last night we went swimming. It must have been hot because I actually went in the water. I think I have this phobia about being seen in a swimsuit because quite honestly not all women come out looking fabulous after three pregnancies in three years. Of course my youngest will be turning 11 in two months so I guess that is no excuse is it?! Anyway, I felt cooler for awhile. Don BBQ'd some chicken and we had dinner real quick. Just in time for the kids and I to catch "Camp Rock." I am a Disney fiend so whenever they come out even though it was meant for teens and such. I am a dork and I loved it!!! Of course the kids did not love that Don made them go to sleep halfway through the movies since they were so tired.

the best part about the night was the cool delta breeze running through my bedroom window right over my head. It will be another hot one, but at least I know it will cool down tonight. if i know that I can survive. For anyone else out there that is having a heatwave hit them I am indeed sorry and I truly feel bad. Trust me I understand...we don't have A/C so it gets hard to deal with sometimes. I am always thankful now that we aren't having the same temps as 2 years ago. 123 degrees...now that is ugly!!!

Link to the book....

Hi all!! I started a blog that had to do more with just my writing. I have had such a large response from my friends and people that I have met I was surprised. I had originally kept my blog as a record of what I do through while writing as it was interesting to my kids, but as it turns out I have recieved a great deal of questions from different people. So, click here to find info on my book.

Thanks to all who have asked.

This 'N That...

We have been really enjoying this fabulous weather. Honestly, once it hits a hundred degrees I start messing with people who are whining about the heat and casually mention that we have no air conditioning in our house. You should see the look of horror on their faces, but really, most of the time we get the heat and then the delta breeze cools us off nicely at night. The same will happen today. We had it fairly warm this last night, but after experiencing 123 degrees w/o the good ol' AC then I can handle anything!!!!

Last night wasn't too bad because we took off the instant we made it home. We headed out to watch the Oakland A's and the The Florida Marlins battle it out at the ballpark. We had pretty good seats. We were in the 16th row. In fact, we are close enough for me to feel like I was watching a little league game. The players all looked soooo young. Ugh! Miserable, but honestly I got over it fairly quickly though. It was a really good game aside from when dusk settled in and we were all attacked by these little gnat bugs. At one point this poor Asian tourist had 13 on his back with A few of them crawling into his collar. EEEWWWW!!! We were all brushing off the backs of the people in front of us. Thanks heavens for cooperation!!!! The bombardment lasted about 30 minutes and then they all drifted off somewhere else. I am not kidding when if someone held up bug spray they would have made a mint off of it!!!! I will remember that one next time.

By the time we had made it home it had cooled off outside, but inside it was still a little warm. We were all so beat that we fell asleep no problem. Now here I sit in the store waiting for our bazillion customers to come in and make a bit of money to pay the mortgage. Of course, I can't complain...we do have AC here in the store. Yay work!!!!!

Have a beautiful weekend!!!

Either I am a true blonde...or very tired.

Ok!! I am sooo helpful aren't I?!
The name of the book is: "Dragon of My Dreams" by Tammy Caldron

Barnes and Noble online had the best price so far, but like I had mentioned I am waiting as I had the paper back edition set to go out. So enjoy the jumping for joy that I am doing. Today I have to get back to work. Not my favorite but there it is!!!

Thursday, June 19, 2008

FYI

I have been asked by several people where to find my book. The best place is here. Just to let you know the paperback edition should be coming out fairly soon so it will be much cheaper. Just thought I would let my fabulous friends know!!!
Have a great day!!
Love ya!

Surreal experience....

Please don't get upset at this indulgence, but I was so shocked yesterday that this had happened it was an incredibly strange experience. I was flipping through my good online friend amazon.com looking for just the right book that will fill my reading needs for the time being. My mouth hung open at what I had found. I switched sights to my second home Barnes & Noble and again you could have knocked me over with a feather. I was utterly speechless at what was sitting on my screen, knowing that I was not the only one that could see it...the entire world could as well.

I know, you all are quite unsure of what I am talking about. I saw my very own first novel listed on the Barnes & Noble website. It was insane and beautiful all at once. I saw the price and about fell over. Way too expensive, so I am going to change it into a paperback edition. It will be cheaper that way. It is a shock to see my book listed on their site. WOW!!!! Life is good for today!!!!

What would I do without friends...

I want to thank you all for your encouragement. I had a friend point out that I should just read an excerpt from my one book. Why didn't I think of that? Duh!!! I will try and gather the courage to actually read it in front of people. We shall see how I do it!!
Thanks to all!!
Love ya!

What have I done now!?!?!

Well, it is my typical behavior. I have promised to do soemthing with no idea what I am going to do!!! Sure, that makes sense doesn't it? I will figure it out as some point today. I promise. It will all work out...I hope! We have an enrichment activity coming up for a beautiful night of "Arts in the Garden." I meant to e-mail my friend weeks ago ebcause I was unsure I was going to make it, but when I talked to her yesterday and she said many people were pulling out of bringing their art to be displayed. Um..well...I really have no art other than some old cartoon art that I have done a long long long time ago. It is something I doubt anyone would really want to see. However, since I have this horrible mutation to my genes that doesn't allow me to disappoint anyone I have also agreed to read something I have written. That would be great since I have not written anything short. Wow! This could be a train wreck waiting to happen. I have a little more than 24 hours to come up with something...Anything!!!! Don't worry something will come to mind. It always does. At least I hope it does. Well, here goes the roller coaster ride of the century. My brain shall be going crazy today. If i get desperate I can always pick up something else to read and let them all know it was not mine, but my good friend requested soemthign of mine so we shall see how it all works out. If you will excuse me...I think I need to take 5 tylenol. I feel my head starting to hurt. Maybe if I actually get it written I will post it. We shall see... Wish me luck!!!

It was sort of sad...really it was....

Yesterday was sort of a sad day. Don and I ran errands and accomplished a lot of things....which basically means we spent a bunch of money. It was not planned to spend so much, but in the end we did because of a few factors. There are a few stores going out of business and sadly enough we took advantage of the sales. I almost felt guilty for buying knowing they were closing, however Don gently reminded me that we shopped there before ona regular basis and I can't save the world/stores all by myself. Needless to say I bought a large amount of clothing for myself...which I hate to do. However when I can get t-shirts for $4.50 that I can wear up to Girl's Camp and not care if they come home stained or such then that is a bonus. I was trying to figure out just how to work that. I also bought the girls new bed sets as they were on sale as well. We also shopped for Bryan's scout camp coming up in a couple weeks and then from there we bought myself and Corinna two new pairs of water shoes. Corinna's are for camp and mine are for the kayak.

I can hear your minds.....Kayak?!?!?!?! That is what my hubby received for Father's Day. It was a double kayak that he wanted for his days off and our visits to Tahoe or any lake for that matter. Yes, we have tested it out...as I am not the smallest woman on the planet. At nearly 6 ft tall how could I be? Anyway, we both climbed on in the pool and paddled a bit about. It was great. No capsizing or anything!!!! Now we just need to find the life jackets. That will be a job for later on this week perhaps. We shall see what happens. Anyway, now we can hopefully find time to relax a bit before the end of the week hits again!!!

Making Choices....

I am still working out a choice that I had made. With so many family gatherings in the past three weeks Don and I were exhausted...not to mention our pocketbooks with the cost of gas lately!!! Anyway, there was a graduation party for two nephews and a niece. Probably the most frustrating thing about owning a store is the fact that you just can't close down anytime you feel like it. There has to be some continuity going on in order to make it work. Well, this graduation had been planned to start in a city a fair distance away at 5pm. We don't clsoe down the store until 5:30pm. This is the way it usually goes down: The family starts eating a half and hour after the party begins. That brings us to the time where we lock the doors. By the time we walk out the back door and lock it up it is 5:45 at the earliest. Then we go home and change our clothes. By the time we leave it will be 6pm. To get to the party it would then take us another hour...maybe more depending on traffic. So, we are now arriving at 7pm for a party that started at 5pm. We eat the leftovers that are cold by now and barely any left. We sit for maybe 30 minutes and then we must leave because they all want to puteverything away. So, we decided not to go. I am very happy with that decision and so is Don. I called my sister in law just after we close the doors on the store...it was almost 6pm we had an incredibly busy day. She was a bit upset that we wouldn't make the trek for the party. WHAT?!

Oh and by the way, I know I am whining, but I just can't stand all of the selfishness going on around here sometimes!!!!

Warning...

I don't want to sound ominous or anything, but for the gals in the area...please be very careful with the mosquitos this year. As I have been driving the kids to and from school and running my daily errands I am seeing more and more dead crows on the ground. The West Nile virus shows up in birds first and then in larger animals. We sell the West Nile vaccine for horses in our store becuase horses will become infected and could possibly die from the virus. It is also contracted by humans.

The worry is that with so many homes being foreclosed and people just walking away from their homes that the pools that were normally crystal blue in the past become green and a breeding ground for mosquitos who could pass on this horrible disease. If you have neighbors that have walked away then call vector control and they will have solutions for these pools and they will take care of them. This is a really serious thing that is going to happen and West Nile has already been documented here in Tracy, not far from your homes. It is better safe than sorry. Wearing a little bug repellant while being outside in the early morning or late day will help as well.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. I just want my friends to protect themselves and their families.

Excited....

After going out for dessert with some friends...fabulous night by the way. I received inspiration on what I will be working on next. As we were talking about events from the past, that looking back are absolutely hysterical I received inspiration on what to write next. Most of you know I am a writer in my heart and once my brain latches on to an idea that sounds incredibly feasible I can't seem to let go. We were talking about little known facts and I can't remember how this came out, but I mentioned that both Don and my family have been intertwined for centuries. We are both a quarter dutch and our families lived within the same area. Lynne pointed out what an epic love story it could be turned into. Generations back two lovers separated by their family, but generations down the line the two families are finally united. Hmmm... this could be fun!!!!! I can feel it already forming in my head. Ahh this could be incredibly fun!!!

There is a down side to everything...

While owning a business you take the good with the bad. Today I dealt with a customer that really tried to tear me down. She is an artist that paints beautiful vases, plates, etc all with a western theme. She does a fabulous job. She has displayed pieces at our store for years. Recently, she took all of her items out of the glass case where we kept them and took them to a show. No problem. Today she came back with two items that she painted to sell for Father's Day. Here is the problem from our standpoint. Although they are beautiful works of art they simply do not sell. We want to use our space for items that we can move. In this economic craziness going on we are going to be lucky to make it through. We have already seen the drop, but we are blessed that people are still keeping us afloat. So, we have made the decision to not carry her items and use the space for other items that we can move faster. I hated telling her because she is a good woman and been through trial after trial lately. I could see she was heartbroken by the news.

In the end she called to yell at me for being heartless and unchristian. I took a great offense to that and my heart aches for her, but at the same time...this business has my family's name on it and not hers. She has truly hurt me that she could be so negative. She said that Don has been rude to her more than once and that she was done with us and our store. I tried to explain to her that our decision was not one trying to be hurtful, but she refused to hear it. I feel angry right now that it seems to me that she is being selfish in her attitude towards us. I will take a deep look at myself tonight and decide if my attitude is one of selfishness. I hate to be that way. Unfortunately, when you own a business calls need to be made that aren't the easiest to make and sometimes people get their feelings hurt. I hate this day!!!! I wish I could hide under the covers!!!

10 Wishes...

1st Wish: I wish how best I could understand how to help others through their challenges.

2nd Wish: I wish I had more time with my kids. They are growing so quickly. In just 4 1/2 short years my oldest will be in college.

3rd Wish: I wish I could find more time to write and work on my novel.

4th wish: I wish I could accept myself for who I am and not who I wish I was.

5th Wish: I wish my children would learn from their mistakes and live to be a happy people.

6th Wish: I wish I could give my best friend a hug just once before I die...She lives in Scotland and we have written for over 7 years now and never met face to face. She is my sister in every way.

7th Wish: I wish people wouldn't be in such a hurry all of the time. Let's take time and smell the roses.

8th Wish: I wish gratitude was a daily thought process.

9th Wish: I wish the world would stop arguing and learn how to get along like a couple of three year olds I know.

10th Wish: I wish when I closed my eyes I could focus on the positive things in my life and not the negative.

What do you wish for?! Rub your lamps and show me!!!

4:00am

Yes, that is the time that the alarm went off at the store. Don and I plopped out of bed to check it out. Now let me give you a really good picture of it. It is 4am so there is no make-up, my hair closely resembles Albert Einstein...not a good look in my opinion, I am wearing a ratty pair of pink plaid pj bottoms and a green striped shirt. I throw on a pair of flip flops and my hubby hands me a shotgun...yes, we are not dumb enough to go over to a store when the alarm goes off without being armed. I hate guns. I really do. Personally, I think if there was a burglar then he would have been frozen in horror seeing my appearance. There was no need for the shotguns, but it made my hubby feel better. I figured for just waking up I was fairly prepared. I brought my cell phone in case I needed to call the police and a flashlight as well.

And where was my fearsome dog?!?!?

Yes, hiding under the train car. She a tough little pit bull isn't she?!?!?!

Now, somebody fluff my pillow, I am going back to bed!!!

Listener Appreciation Concert...

Hello all...I'm back. It was a wild and crazy weekend and I am happy that it is all but done. It started off Friday with our claims adjuster coming from our insurance to check out the truck. Within about 45 minutes she had all of the parts needed for reorder and worked out the estimate with the body shop to fix Don's beloved
"Misty"...aka...our truck. So, she had a check in Don's hand that leaves us free and clear to pay our deductible and it is paid. I am grateful that portion is done. We also have our claim number and it is all set so that when we put the truck in we go and get our rental for the time being. I love my insurance company!!!

Now off to the real fun!!!! We set up for the concert on friday for a couple hours and then made our way back home. I left early on Saturday morning loaded with products to sell. With the help of my girls we set up in a few hours and were ready for business. The gates were not opened until noon so we had a little time to relax. Once the gates were opened I attempted to be my charming self. it seemed to work. We sold a decent amount of goods. i wished I had sold more, but I can't help that people were just holding onto their money tighter these days. When the concert started the party began.

I snuck away from the booth at the end of each act to meet the men performing. This is me while the concert is going on and before my camera died. Sad but true. They didn't allow our own cameras backstage as it would take too much time so I will be getting the professionally taken pictures later on and I will post them when they are delivered.

For now I will share with you the men I was lucky enough to meet.

First: Lee Brice-
Lee has been on the scene for a little while. he was a football player for awhile until an injury sidelined his college career. He was headed for being a civil engineer when he decided to go for his dream. Lately he is known for writing Garth Brooks latest hit "More than a Memory" which I do admit is one of my favorite songs. he sang it saturday and I loved it. He is quickly making his name known in the country music world and it was a fun time getting to see him perform.

The second one I met was Andy Griggs.

Andy seemed to me to be a real down to earth kind of guy that appreciated where he was at and what he was doing. I truly enjoyed him and he got the house pumping fairly well. Just a quick side story. While getting my picture done with my group there was a little girl named Skyler. She was about 6 years old. He took his own time to give her some special attention. As we crowded in for the picture Andy had his arm around me and another gal on the other side. he stopped the photo from being taken and asked Skyler to stand right in front of him. Afterwards we headed back to our tent, but Andy called her back and autographed her VIP pass especially for just her since autographs were not allowed as they were available for a limited amount of time. He's a good man.

And finally...Blake Shelton

Now, you need to understand I love his music. he is just as close to really hitting it big as Taylor Swift was last year at this same event put on by the radio station. If you get a chance to listen to his song "Some Beach" then you will hear a bit of why I love his music. He really knew how to get the 20,000 plus people dancing and playing. As we went over there to meet him the group i was with froze when he said hello. I looked at them strangely and walked right on over. He shook my hand and swept me up into a hug and said: "Hey there darlin'" I have to admit my thought process shut down for a moment while I caught my breath. After the picture I was the last to wish him well and I received another hug. hey! Why not!!! I am adorable!!! Right?!?!?! I thought so!!!

So, I managed to get everything we hadn't sold home and was incredibly exhausted last night. It was a great night!!!!

Fabuloso!!!!

Ready for bed...

It has been a very long weekend my friends. Not only did Don make it through the accident, even though it still bothers him. No worries though, the only thing hurt were the metal cars...no humans were hurt.
" />
We drove up after work Saturday to see my two nephews, Bradley & Jeremy, be awarded their Eagle Scout awards. It was terrific to see them and have my little guy the chance to see his cousins getting that award he was worried about.

Sunday we went to church where Don began to have chest pains. Before you all freek out he does this when he is stressed out. it has nothing to do with his heart, but with stress instead and how his body reacts. He is doing much better. After he rested a bit I drove us all down to see my nephew Kenny, who we attended his graduation from high school on Thrusday. On Sunday his birthday/graduation party was set and we attended that. needless to say my hubby couldn't help, but give Kenny an extra surprise!!!!
